Michael Edwards
B.A. Religion, M.Div. Marital and Family Therapy

Michael is passionate about helping families and individuals reach their full potential. He comes to Sojourn with a diverse background both educationally and academically. Michael started his educational journey at Taylor University receiving a bachelor of Religion. He then moved to Toronto where he received a Master of Divinity with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy.
During his time in Toronto he worked primarily in the inner city helping the poor and disadvantaged as well as new immigrants to Canada. Michael then moved back west and worked at an intensive treatment centre for nine years, helping youth and their families achieve health and wholeness. Currently Michael is working on second Master’s Degree in counseling, with the end goal to be a registered psychologist.

Michael has been trained in a variety of therapeutic orientations, and is able to draw from this training to find the therapeutic orientation that best suites the client. Michael has a lot of front line experience working with families, individuals, and youth in crisis. Michael draws from this experience and is able to blend it with different therapeutic models to help improve emotional and relational health. In particular Michael tends to draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Family Systems, Solution Focused, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
